'Deadpool 2': Release Date, Cast, Plot and Everything Else We Know so Far

Fans have been waiting for the follow-up to last year’s smash hit “Deadpool” ever since it was greenlit at Fox. “Deadpool 2” is one of the most highly anticipated films of 2018 so here’s a summary of everything we know about the upcoming sequel so far.

In a perfect world, the team that worked on the original would remain intact for the follow-up. However, as we’re already aware, director Tim Miller will not be seated in the director’s chair this time around.

The filmmaker was credited with playing an important role in the movie's blockbuster success along with Ryan Reynolds, and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (all three of them will be returning for the sequel). However, conflicts over the tone of the film with Reynolds led to the director's exit, as Variety pointed out.

Even though we’ve lost Miller as director, there are a lot of things that will get you excited about the upcoming film, which is scheduled to hit theaters on June 1, 2018. For starters, “John Wick” director David Leitch will be taking over the reins as director.

Moreover, most of the original cast members will be returning for the sequel, including Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Stefan Kapicic (Colossus), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), as well as Karan Soni (Dopinder). T.J. Miller is also rumored to reprise his role as Weasel.

We’ll also be seeing some fresh faces in “Deadpool 2,” starting with Josh Brolin, who has been signed on to play the role of Cable. Zazie Beetz, who created a lot of buzz with her role as Van on “Atlanta,” has been tapped to play the femme fatale Domino, as Deadline previously reported.

The sequel’s plot details have been kept under wraps but “X-Men” producer Simon Kinberg recently told Slashfilm that “Deadpool 2” would "comment on anything that's happening in movies today especially in superhero movies. The sort of glut or saturation of these movies and the proliferation of sequels is definitely something we'll play around with."

Although this does not give us plenty to go on, in terms of the film’s storyline, it does give us an idea about the direction that the film will take.
