'Batgirl': Actresses Who Could Play the Role in Joss Whedon's Upcoming DC Movie
In March, news first broke that Joss Whedon was moving over from Marvel to DC to write and direct a standalone “Batgirl” movie and ever since then there has been a lot of speculation surrounding the female superhero’s casting. Here are some of the actresses who would be perfect for the role:
There are several fans rooting for the Oscar-winning actress to play the character in Whedon’s film and it’s easy to see why. Stone has Batgirl a.k.a. Barbara Gordon’s trademark red locks and is no stranger to the comic book universe, having starred in “The Amazing Spider-Man” film series, so if fans believe she’s an ideal choice for the role, we don’t disagree.
We already know that Chloe can kick ass as we’ve seen her take on the bad guys as in the “Kick-Ass” franchise. The actress played the role of the badass no-nonsense Hit Girl who is capable of getting the job done.
Moreover, she has previously worked with “The Batman” director Matt Reeves on the 2010 film, “Let Me In,” and the fact that her “Kick-Ass” director Matt Vaughn is being eyed to direct “Man of Steel 2,” she could be a perfect fit for artists who are shaping the future of the DCEU, as IGN pointed out.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Mary Elizabeth Winstead playing “Batgirl” would be a dream come true. The actress displayed her grit and attitude in “Scott Pilgrim vs the World” and “10 Cloverfield Lane,” and definitely has the resilience and toughness to play the DC character
Zoe Kravitz is another top contender for the “Batgirl” role even though she has mostly been seen in supporting roles. The actress has proved that she’s more than capable of playing more significant roles with her work in “Good Kill” and “Big Little Lies.”
Kravitz also has experience in the comic book playground, having played the mutant Angel Salvadore in “X-Men: First Class” and has also voiced Catwoman in “The Lego Batman Movie.”
We know that Shailene Woodley is physically capable of playing “Batgirl” after seeing her pull off stunts with ease in the “Divergent” series. Woodley played the role of Tris in the franchise, which is now making the transition to TV (without Woodley), but could work as an audition tape for the “Batgirl” role as her heroic, powerful and likeable character is exactly what the “Batgirl” role demands.
