Nintendo Dominates Sales Charts in Japan with 'Mario Kart 8 Deluxe'

Nintendo continues to dominate the sales charts in Japan as "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe" tops the list for two weeks in a row.

According to the latest Media Create sales figures for Golden Week, May 1 – 7 (via Nintendo Everything), Nintendo's colorful racing game maintains its lead in the software charts since its was released on Apr. 28, adding another 90,652 units sold to its record. The Nintendo Switch racer already sold 284,823 copies during its opening week alone.

Following "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe" is Nintendo 3DS' card-based fighting game "Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission X," which debuted a day earlier, Apr. 27, in Japan. The portable game sold 31,271 units this week, bringing its lifetime sales figure to 128, 365 units sold.

Capcom's "Monster Hunter XX" maintains its momentum on the number three spot, adding another 30,338 to its whopping sales figures since it was launched in Mar. 18, 2017. The Nintendo 3DS game already sold over 1.4 million units.

The top nine games consist of Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS titles, which reflects the strength of Nintendo in its home country. The sole non-Nintendo title on the top 10 is "NieR: Automata," which sold 7,245 units that week. The figures below show its weekly sales against its lifetime sales.

On the hardware front, the Nintendo Switch sales continue to be strong in Japan, selling 47,911 units during Golden Week, according to Gematsu. PS4 sales have slightly increased from last week's sales, selling 20,963 units this week.
