'Dead Island 2' Update: The Game Isn't 'Dead' at All, Says Sumo Digital

Fans of the first pioneers of open-world first person rpg-esque zombie shooter “Dead Island” may yet to give up with their wait for “Dead Island” 2. Developer Sumo Digital gives some assurance that despite the game's history of going through development limbo, the project itself is very much alive.

Almost a year have passed since Sumo Digital announced its work on the highly anticipated and equally elusive “Dead Island 2.” After the major reveal, there weren't too many updates that followed, which lead to several speculations that the incident back in 2015 took place again.

Fortunately, a recent post at Eurogamer suggests that “Dead Island 2” isn't abandoned yet, which is contrary to the rumors of it, hitting another roadblock in its development. The game was originally and supposedly developed by Deep Silver, though after splitting with Yager, the game's development progress got postponed for quite some time.

Fortunately, Sumo Digital was assigned to pick up the pieces and resume the game's development back in October last year, though there wasn't a lot of updates since then. Good thing that Eurogamer got a quick response from Sumo Digital after the publication decided to ask for any particular updates and the general status of the game.

Sumo Digital's response is as follows;

"Dead Island 2 is in development at Sumo Digital, and we are excited by the progress the team are [sic] making with Deep Silver's most successful IP. When we are ready to share more information, we will."

Overlooking the fact that there's no significant update yet, despite the gap between its initial announcement and the present day, it is more than reassuring that “Dead Island 2” didn't hit another development hell the same way it did back in 2015. Still, by the look of things, fans might need to wait some more before anything comes up.
