Here’s Why ‘Yuri!!! On Ice’ Season 2 May Not Happen Anytime Soon
“Yuri!!! On Ice” fans are eagerly waiting for Yuri Katsuki (voiced by Toshiyuki Toyonaga), Yuri Plisetsky (voiced by Kōki Uchiyama) and Victor Nikiforov’s (voiced by Junichi Suwabe) comeback to the small screen. However, it may not happen anytime soon.
Since Mappa Studios is busy working on a brand-new “Yuri!!! On Ice” film, its anime TV series counterpart was reportedly put on the back burner. At the “Yuri!!! on Stage” event last April 29, it was announced that Mappa Studios have already started working on a brand-new film, according to Anime News Network.
Since it will not be a compilation of the anime TV series, many believed the “Yuri!!! On Ice” film will feature an entirely new content. While there is no release date has been set for the planned project yet, speculations suggest it may open in theaters before the year ends or in the first quarter of 2018.
Nonetheless, this does not close the door entirely on “Yuri!!! On Ice” Season 2. In a past interview, writer Mitsuro Kubo said Yuri Katsuki, Yuri Plisetsky, and Victor Nikiforov’s story is far from over.
“For the rest of this year I’ll be pouring all my energy into ‘Yuri!!! on ICE’, but I do plan on cheering for the matches on tv and online,” The Inquisitr quoted Mitsuro Kubo as saying. “I have a lot of plans in the works with the director for next year, including the wish to create a sequel. So I’m doing my best and working hard for that reason.”
The finale episode of “Yuri!!! On Ice” Season 1 has also hinted that the series would be coming back for more. In the last few seconds of the said finale, fans saw Yuri Katsuki running towards Victor Nikiforov and Yuri Plisetsky – before it ended with a “See you, Next Level” message.
