Is 'Code Vein' an Anime 'Dark Souls'?

When Bandai Namco posted the first teaser for their upcoming action-RPG "Code Vein," many believed that they were going to reveal a new game from the "Soulsborne" series. Well, it's not a new "Dark Souls" game, but it might look like an anime RPG version of From Software's popular game.

"Code Vein" is a third-person action RPG from Bandai Namco Studios, although the makers of another popular anime action-RPG, "God Eater" are also behind it, according to Polygon. While it would probably be closer to "God Eater"'s style than any "Soulsborne" game, one cannot ingore that there are some similarities, according to how Bandai Namco described it.

Here is a peek into the storyline of "Code Vein," taken from the Bandai Namco website:

In the not too distant future, a mysterious disaster has brought collapse to the world, as we know it. Towering skyscrapers, once symbols of prosperity, are now lifeless graves of humanity’s past pierced by the Thorns of Judgment. At the center of the destruction lies a hidden society of Revenants called Vein. This final stronghold is where the remaining few fight to survive, blessed with Gifts of power in exchange for their memories and a thirst for blood. Give into the bloodlust fully and risk becoming one of the Lost, fiendish ghouls devoid of any remaining humanity.

"Code Vein" is described by Bandai Namco to be a"grueling action-RPG" which takes players through a "journey across a massive interconnected world to unlock its mysterious sanguine past." It looks a little bit like they were trying to associate the game to "Dark Souls" by the sound of it, but here's another part from their statement that would confirm that.

"The world of CODE VEIN is dangerous, full of vicious enemies and monstrous bosses to put players’ combat skills to the test."

Fans would argue that if there is a single game that has put our combat skills to the test, that would definitely be the "Soulsborne" series.

The recently released screenshots do give out a certain "Dark Souls" feel to it, although it still feels more like an anime RPG than a "Soulsborne" game at best.

So is "Code Vein" an anime-style "Dark Souls"? We can't say for sure yet, judging from the screenshots alone. More comparisons should be made once actual gameplay videos for "Code Vein" are released.
