Will “New Girl” return for Season 7? This remains to be unanswered as Fox has yet to the renew the sitcom starring Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, and Lamorne Morris.

While “New Girl” has yet to be renewed, executive producers Dave Finkel and Brett Baer teased what could be a possible storyline for Season 7. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Finkel and Baer said one of the possible storylines for the next season is Nicholas Miller’s (Johnson) growth.

“Jess and Nick ended where they ended and we want to look at that and figure out how to make that play in some more interesting way,” Finkel said. “I think there’s still stuff that has to be done with all the characters.”

For instance, Nicholas has grown so much and gotten to a place where he has become a successful man. Finkel believes Nicholas really needs the most growth out of all the characters.

“But I don’t think we’ve mined as much as we could possibly mine out of it,” Finkel continued. “In a world where Schmidt and Cece and Winston and Jess have all sort of found the thing that they’ve been looking for, at least in their work lives, that Nick’s still on his road is interesting. I think there’s a lot of fun to be had there.”

For Baer, he would like to get back to do some more work stories for Winston Saint-Marie Schmidt (Greenfield) and his relationship with Aly Nelson (Nasim Pedrad). Also, he wanted to see the character getting promoted at work and becoming a detective.

“I think that it’d be really, really fun — the way that it was fun to see Schmidt as a bridezilla — to see Schmidt as a helicopter daddy for his child and see what he’s like as a father,” Baer continued. “When you talk about the full evolution of a character, going from the douchebag jar and taking his shirt off during the interview with Jess in the pilot, to a guy who’s now married and in a wonderful relationship living in his own home and facing parenthood — I think those are fun things to play with as well.”

When asked by TV Line whether or not there will be a ten-year time jump in “New Girl” Season 7, the executive producers said that they are considering it, but since the show has yet to be renewed for another installment, nothing is set in stone yet.
