Followers of Ann Biderman’s “Ray Donovan” series have plenty of reasons to be excited for the return of the crime drama this summer.

Embeth Davidtz, who has brought to life the character of Sonia Kovitzy, assured the new installment will be filled with surprises and unforeseen turn of events.

“It shocks! Some real shocks and twists and turns. Some unexpected stuff,” she told Fox News.

Her statement was supported by David Hollander’s assurance that the upcoming “Ray Donovan” Season 5 will explore the character arcs of the Donovans.

“You can expect an intense look at the Donovan family in a way we have never seen them before. Really intense relationship season and Hollywood,” the executive producer teased.

The newest installment will witness Ray’s attempt to go back to his family and church after he spilled his secrets to Father Romero.

Hollander, on the other hand, explained the reasons why the lead character decided to keep his secrets from his own family.

“He ends up becoming vulnerable in front of the people who matter most to him because they’re consistent, because they’re known,” the EP stated.

The showrunner also reiterated their intention to have a fresh start in “Ray Donovan” Season 5 by “moving on to new places.” Hollander even added viewers can expect a different Liev Schreiber in the new installment.

“It was not just about the mob story per se, that was an engine, but it was about where Ray’s condition and his character and his heart and his head were,” he stated.

Aside from new dynamics for Ray and his family, the CBS show has added award-winning actress Susan Sarandon to its lineup for the new season. The Academy Award winner is said to play the role of Samantha Winslow, the strong-willed boss of a motion picture studio.

The release date of “Ray Donovan” Season 5 is still undecided but just like the previous seasons, it is likely that the action series will return sometime in June or July.
