LeBron’s Cavaliers Are Not Ready, Despite Meaningless Win Over Celtics

By Fred Richardson / 2017.04.07

LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers posted what many are calling a statement win over Celtics.  Cleveland fans are hoping this marks a turnaround for the Cavaliers.

Unfortunately for Cavs fans, the win over the Celtics is likely a meaningless win and a blip in a bad defensive stretch the LeBron James led team.

Cleveland ranks last in the league in steals, 26th in blocked shots, 25th in points off turnovers, 22nd in defensive rating, 23rd in defensive rebound percentage, and 25th in second chance points allowed.  The Cavaliers were in the top 10 in multiple defensive categories during their championship season last year.

This season, the Cavs “Big 3” have not been big on defense.  LeBron, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love rank staggeringly low on defensive win share ratings.

Cleveland is set to host the Atlanta Hawks tonight and have been on a roller coaster ride of a season.
The Cavs lost 5 of 7, before recently winning 4 straight. Despite the wins, the Cavaliers have not yet shown the consistent defensive prowess needed to win in the playoffs.

LeBron’s Cavaliers have shown they are just not that good this year and their defensive lapses will come back to haunt them in the playoffs.
